Modern culture often says masculinity is toxic. But when we look at Jesus Christ, we see the true model of what it means to be a man. Jesus shows men how to love, honor, and protect women, not dominate, belittle, or treat them as less than. Just as Christ loves the Church, men are called to lead with sacrificial love, humility, and strength. In this video, we explore how the example of Jesus offers a powerful answer to the confusion around masculinity in today’s culture.
A petri dish. Perhaps not the first thing we think of when we consider the internet. And yet, [clears throat] it’s one of the most accurate metaphors for
the worldwide web. People gather in small groups on smutty sites and they breed unhealthy culture. Then the culture spreads to the world at large. This includes the Catholic world. One unfortunate example of this is a new movement surrounding hyper masculinity. It first appeared on fringe sites around 2010, and now it’s here for us to deal with. Hyper masculinity offers the image of a man who’s justified and self-righteous, who dominates others, especially his wife. Wives forward me sound clips that their husbands send to them. Nice guys always lose. We know how women really like to be treated. This will get you what you want. If what men want is a wife who feels unsafe, disconnected, and traumatized, then it’ll get men what they want. Is this how you want to be as a man? Let’s take a look at it this way. Think of a time you were shamed. Maybe it was by your father. Maybe it was by bullies or peers. Maybe it was by a girlfriend. How did you feel? Now ask yourself the most important question. Do you want your wife to feel this way? If the answer is no, Jesus gives us the icon of true masculinity. Love your wives as I love the Catholic Church. He says for his bride, the Catholic Church, Jesus freely and willingly gives everything. This is the great challenge for you and for me to give everything for our wives willingly. Do you want to know what women want? They want safety, connection, and a man who prioritizes and cherishes them. Anyone telling you anything else is lying. The path of authentic masculinity leads to a wife who feels loved in a way that she’s longed to be loved for her entire life. And out of that love will grow a sense of devotion, respect, and admiration for her husband. Her wisdom and relationship will bless her husband more than all the gratification in the world. The time has come for us to trade everything that we think we want for respect. For the wise man, respect means more.
